Researchers have characterized brain activity that occurs when we are socially influenced to change our minds. The study shows how the brain distinguishes between different types of social conformity when revising one’s opinions.

Using a model of fMRI data collected from 92 individuals performing several types of attention-related tasks, researchers successfully predicted how well those individuals would perform on the tasks based on their brain scans alone. This generalized mo…

Using a novel probe for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), biological engineers have devised a way to monitor individual populations of neurons and reveal how they interact with each other.

Researchers found that blood pressure medications have an unanticipated effect on the brain.

Many people impacted by COVID-19 experienced changes in their sense of smell, taste, hearing, balance and in some cases, tinnitus, ‘ringing’ in the ears. Among the various causes of tinnitus is stress. What’s unclear, however, is whether the psychologi…

Researchers are simultaneously recording populations of neurons across brain areas in the visual system and utilizing novel statistical methods to observe neural activity patterns being conveyed.

A ubiquitous protein called sigma 1 receptor, which is known to protect cells from stress, appears key to the function and survival of the neurons most impacted by glaucoma, scientists report.

New research has revealed a key neural mechanism underlying the feeling of being unable to stop eating, the most salient aspect of binge episodes in eating disorders like bulimia nervosa.

Whether they’re getting a new shirt, a new computer, or taking a trip, people derive less ‘purchase happiness’ from buying things when they feel financial stress, new research shows.

Scientists have developed a new technique that uses microscopic magnetic particles to remotely activate brain cells; researchers say the discovery in rats could potentially lead to the development of a new class of non-invasive therapies for neurologic…
