A new neuroimaging study points to an answer of what may have driven the evolutionary development of creativity.

Scientists have discovered a new role for the brain chemical dopamine that is independent of classic neurotransmission. The new role appears to be critical to changes in gene expression related to chronic exposure to, or abuse of, cocaine.

Researchers created technology that uses optical imaging to better help surgeons map out tumors in the body and help them understand how certain diseases affect activity in the brain.

MW189 blocks abnormal inflammation in the brain that is known to contribute to injury- and disease-induced neurologic impairments in a number of acute and chronic brain disorders. This study examined MW189 in healthy adult volunteers.

Researchers have demonstrated the ability to implant an ultrathin, flexible neural interface with thousands of electrodes into the brain with a projected lifetime of more than six years. Protected from the ravaging environment of internal biological pr…

Improper removal of faulty brain cells during neurodevelopment may cause lifelong behavioral issues, new research suggests. The finding also could have important implications for a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parki…

Despite their effectiveness, only 40% of patients respond to the first antidepressant they try. A recent article strongly suggests that a particular protein, GPR56, is involved in the biology of depression and the effect of antidepressants. The researc…

Researchers have succeeded in restoring mobility and sensation of touch in stroke-afflicted rats by reprogramming human skin cells to become nerve cells, which were then transplanted into the rats’ brains.

Researchers have defined a crucial window of time that mice need to key in on visual events.

From early prenatal development through childhood, the prefrontal cortex of the human brain undergoes an avalanche of developmental activity. In some cases, it also contains seeds of neuropsychiatric conditions, according to a new genetic analysis.
