August 31, 2009 by

Stress, sadness, fear and guilt are day by day ingredients in our life. There is very little chance to get rid of these unpleasant situations, but we can learn how to control them effectively.

Here are some suggestions on what you can do to reduce stress and gain emotional comfort:

  • Sports – increases the production of endorphins and frees you from stress
  • Massage – works very effectively for anxiety, depression and insomnia;
  • Meditation – repeat a positive word or a phrase or says a prayer. It helps you focus better and removes stress and pessimistic thoughts;
  • Read biographies of personalities who inspire you – adopt a positive manner of thinking;
  • Use your imagination – imagine that you’re in a dream world for 10-15 minutes and try to imagine what you see, hear, smell and feel. It could be a mountain or a beach or whatever else you enjoy;
  • Listen to a relaxing music – studies have shown that it decreases the production of a substance called cortisol, which stimulates appetite for carbohydrates;
  • Have a bath with aromatherapy – oils of lemon, eucalyptus, sage, and Lavanda added to the bath water can give you a pleasant feeling of relaxation;
  • Laughter – watch series of comedy or participate in activities that bring humor and joy into your life;
  • Find a passion – photography, art, ceramics or football. Find something that inspires and attracts you;
  • Help others – sometimes it really helps to get involved in charity, develop social responsibility, etc.

These methods will not work for people with serious emotional problems, they do require professional help.
