First North American study to look at emergency department use by adults with intellectual disabilities

In the first North American study to examine population rates of emergency department (ED) use for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), researchers found 55 per cent of adults with IDD and mental illness visited the ED at least once in a two-year period and 15.6 per cent visited at least five times.
